Wessex Rescue are a voluntary flood, water rescue and drone unit based in Dorset. The Unit is a nationally listed flood rescue asset and also holds service level agreements with Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Services and Dorset Police.

Water Rescue

Wessex Rescue has the capabilities to:

 

  • Deploy powered or unpowered craft utilising our FRB 400 Flood craft and Ariancia Flood Craft. 
  • Deploy rope teams made up of Level 3  Swiftwater Technicians.
  • Deploy as a National Flood Asset

SAR Drones

Our team is equipped to assist emergency services with advanced drone capabilities, including:

  • High-resolution imaging and thermal scanning
  • Aerial search for missing persons
  • Real-time scene visibility for officers, firefighters, and control rooms
  • Overhead support for boat operations

Training

Our volunteers are trained from basic water safety through to swift water rescue, Rescue Boats Operations and Incident Management through the DEFRA modules. Drone Pilots and Drone Observers are trained to CAA approved standards.


All volunteers complete regular ongoing training and requalifications.
